The Family Model consists of six domains and ten interconnecting arrows. The domains represent the key areas relevant to the experience of mental health challenges for individuals and their families. The arrows represent the connections and relationships between each of the domains. Six principles underpin the approach and six key messages emphasize early intervention and prevention.
6 Domains
10 Arrows
When combined, the domains and arrows form a composite cross sectional ‘slice’ representing a visual map of the key components necessary to support family focused practice.
The Model also provides a longitudinal (family life cycle) perspective using 3 cross-sectional, linked ‘slices’ to represent different points in time – the present, the past and the future. These help to convey a lifespan and transgenerational approach to family focused practice.
